All about need to know about Kratom:
The kratom tree Mitragyna speciosa is a part of the coffee plant family (Rubiaceae). M. speciosa is indigenous to Thailand, Malaysia and New Guinea. Other Mitragyna species (e.g. M. brunonis) can be found on the African continent as well.
In the countries of origin, kratom has been used for thousands of years as a remedy for diarrhoea, worm diseases, muscle pain, fever and as a diuretic. However, there is no empirical evidence of its therapeutic value for these complaints to date. Furthermore, farmers used its sedative, stimulant and mood-lifting effects to resist tiring field work in hot and humid environments.
The name kratom comes from the Thai language, where it is also called kakuam, kraton, thiang or thom. The terms biak-biak and ketum are derived from Malaysian.
